Gelesen: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Mark Twain, 1876)
abgelegt unter: MedialesIm März lachten mich in der Mayerschen mal "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" an.
"TOM!"
No answer.
"Tom!"
No answer.
"What's gone with the boy, I wonder? You Tom!"
The old lady pulled her specatacles down and looked over them, about the room; then she put them up and looked out under them. She seldom or never looked through them for so small a thing as a boy, for they were her state pair, the pride of her heart, and were built for 'style' not service; she could have seen through a pair of stove lids as well. She looked perplexed a moment and said, not fiercely, but still loud enough for the furniture to hear, "Well, I lay if I get hold of you, I'll - "
...und so beginnt Seite 98.
They came back to camp wonderfully refreshed, glad-hearted, and ravenous; and they soon had the camp-fire blazing up again. Huck found a spring of clear cold water close by, and the boys made cups of broad oak or hickory leaves, and felt that water, sweetened with such a wild-wood charm as that, would be a good enough substitute for coffee. While Joe was slicing bacon for breakfast, Tom and Huck asked him to hold on a minute; they stepped to a promising nook in the river bank and threw their lines; almost immediately they had reward.
Musik: Love at the Five And Dime - Nanci Griffith
