Das letzte Bild meines Regal Ungelesener Bücher ist schon eine Weile her. Bei Arbeiten, Studieren, Lokalpolitik betreiben, Eishockey gucken und vielen anderen Dingen, bleibt nicht so viel Zeit zum Bücher-Lesen. Zum Lesen von Fanfictions im Internet allerdings reicht die Zeit immer noch :-)

Von vielen Seiten wurde dieser Krimi hochgelobt und er stand auch lange in der Bestseller-Liste, glaube ich. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich diese große Begeisterung nicht so ganz nachvollziehen kann. Den minimalistischen Erzähl-Stil auf den ersten paar Seiten fand ich sogar eher abschreckend, aber ich hab mir gedacht: Das Buch ist eh nicht so lang, das hast du ja schnell durch, auch wenn du es nicht so doll findest. Die Idee, eine Geschichte aus ganz unterschiedlichen Perspektiven zu erzählen, ist auch gar nicht schlecht, und man erhielt ganz interessante Einblicke in das Innenleben dieses Dorfes, aber in alles in allem habe ich die ganze Geschichte daher eher teilnahmslos verfolgt. Sie hat mich einfach nicht so richtig gepackt. Schade.

So beginnt die Geschichte...

Den ersten Sommer nach Kriegsende verbrachte ich bei entfernten Verwandten auf dem Land.
In jenen Wochen erschien mir dieses Dorf als eine Insel des Friedens. Einer der letzten heil gebliebenen Orte nach dem großen Sturm, den wir soeben überstanden hatten.
Jahre später, das Leben hatte sich wieder normalisiert und jener Sommer war nur noch eine glückliche Erinnerung, las ich von eben jenem Dorf in der Zeitung.
Mein Dorf war zum "Morddorf" geworden und die Tat ließ mir keine Ruhe mehr.
...und so beginnt Seite 98:

Als ihm Barbara schließlich ihre Schwangerschaft eingestand, war er glücklich über diesen Zustand. Erst allmählich wuchs in ihm der Zweifel.
Ihr Verhalten zu ihm änderte sich. Sie verweigerte sich ihm immer öfter. Ihre Leidenscaft für ihn wich einer immer unverhohlerenen Verachtung. Kam er auf den Hof, um sich mit ihr auszusprechen, ließ sie sich verleugnen.
Er jedoch konnte nicht mehr zurück, hatte sich verändert. Hatte sich in eine nie zuvor gekannte Abhängigkeit begeben, in einen Rausch.

For a couple of weeks now I hardly find time to read anything else than magazines, study material, blogs, journals and fanfiction ;-) on the internet. But I finally managed to finish The Freedom Writers Diary. I bought the book almost a year ago, after I watched the movie and I was deeply moved by all these very personal stories of young people struggeling to find their place in this world. And succeeding with it. I wish there were more teachers like Erin Gruwell everywhere in the world.

That's the beginning of the story...

Dear Diary,
Tomorrow morning, my journey as an English teacher officially begins. Since first impressions are so important, I wonder what my students will think about me. Will they think I'm out of touch or too preppy? Or worse yet, that I'm too young to be taken seriously? Maybe I'll have them write a journal entry describing what their expectations are of me and the class.
Even though, I spent last year as a student teacher at Wilson High School, I'm still learning my way around the city. Long Beach is so different than the gated community I grew up in. Thanks to MTV dubbing Long Beach as the "gangsta-rap capital" with its depiction of guns and graffiti, my friends have a warped perception of the city, or L B C as the rappers refer to it. They think I should wear a bulletproof vest rather than pearls. Where I live in Newport Beach is a utopia compared to some of the neighborhoods seen in a Snoop Doggy Dogg video. Still, TV tends to blow things out of proportion.
...and p 98 begins with:

[....] the fire. That's when he started to try to save every Jew he could with the money he had. By the end, he had saved over a thousand Jews.
The movie made "Night", "The Wave" and "The Diary of a Young Girl" come alive. One of my friends actually said he had a flashback about the death of one of his friends. He said that the little girl's red coat reminded him of his friend's blood. It made me realize that senseless violence doesn't only happen in the history books or movies.
After the movie, we headed to the Century City Marriot Hotel to have a reception for Holocaust survivors and ourselves. The Holocaust survivor at our table showed us his tattoo and it made me wonder if he ever tried to hide it from others. I wanted to know: What he was thinking everyday in camp? What was his greatest fears? Did he ever think of suicide? I wanted to ask, but I was too nervous and I thought my questions were stupid.

Just a short concert review: I really really had a great time. Although it was a little bit strange to be actually sitting throughout the whole concert. That might be due to the rather non-rocking music of James Blunt, but still strange. Everyone around me stayed seated, so I didn't jump up to cheer after a song either. Most of the audience only got up at the final song "1973" which is the most uptempo of his songs. He only played for a little over 90 minutes, which was a bit disappointing, but he only has released two albums yet and his songs are rather short ones, so... it was ok.

A little damper was the continued talking in the audience (at least around me) and the "Beer! Icecream!..." calls from the guys walking around selling this stuff. All during the slow and quit songs, which James sung only accompanied by his accoustic guitar. It sometimes almost wrecked the moment and I wished I would have gotten a ticket for the standing room down in front of the stage.

It was a great concert nonetheless, because unlike some other artist, James Blunt really can sing. The sound (of him and the band) was excellent and he sung so steady and clear and never missed a tune or anything. It was impressive. He didn't talk that much during the songs, but when he did he was rather entertaining.

"They say I've got the No 1 song played at weedings - You're beautiful. And I've also got the No 1 song played at funerals. So, I've covered the basics. But now I've also got a song fit for divorce. So I've covered it all." was the introduction to "I'll take everything"

"No bravery" was introduced with "The next song will make this song [Goodbye my lover, which was played before] look like a happy place." And he told about when he wrote it and what it's about and while he performed there was footage of Kosovo shown on the screen behind the stage. And James was singing it with all his heart. It was more powerful than the album version, because he was much more angry singing it on stage.

All in all: a too short, but nonetheless great concert.

Pop Fiction: Promis schlagen zurück...

"From the paparazzi to the bloggers to the tabloids...." So werden die Gerüchte in die Welt gesetzt. Mit welcher Geschwindigkeit auch die abstrustesten falschen Geschichten rund um den Globus berichtet werden zeigt nun eine wunderbare neue Show von Ashton Kutcher. Die Promis schlagen zurück... sehr witzige Idee. Normalerweise würde ich denken auch diese Clips mit den Horden an Paparazzis sind gefälscht, aber vermutlich geht's wirklich so zu in Hollywood und anderswo. Sehr schön ist aber wirklich wie alle Klatsch-Magazine (Zeitschriften und Fernsehen) direkt auf die abstruse Geschichte anspringen und sie als wahr berichten... Herrlich. Stefan Niggemeier berichtet ausführlich vor allem über die falschen Berichte in den deutschen Zeitschriften und bei E!online kann man die 20 minütige Sendung auch selbst sehen.

Ich hab einige sehr gute Kritiken gelesen über diesen Film und einige eher mittelmäßige. Kritisiert wurde da vor allem das überzogene kitschige (oder so was in der Art wurde es genannt) Ende. Und ich gebe zu, beim großen Finale fand ich auch einiges etwas zu viel des guten, aber wenn es um das Attentat auf den amerikanischen Präsidenten geht, bleibt so was wohl nicht aus. Ich fand's aber auch ok, also mich hat es nicht gestört. Denn der Film an und für sich war ziemlich genial. Die Idee alleine war schon klasse. Ein und dieselbe ca 15 Minuten Sequenz immer und immer wieder zu zeigen, nur aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkel. Und durch das alles erfährt man immer ein kleines Puzzelstück mehr und am Ende enden dann alle die unterschiedlichen Blickwinkel in einem großen Showdown am gleichen Ort. Das war schon sehr cool gemacht und es gab wirklich die ein oder andere große Überraschung. Fazit: Sehr empfehlenswerter Film...

In weniger als acht Wochen geht es schon ab nach Kanada und natürlich werden Hai_di und ich diesen Urlaub auch dazu nutzen uns den ein oder anderen Kinofilm im Original anzuschauen. Dass Paddys "Made of Honor" in dieser Zeit anläuft, wusste ich schon, aber nun hab ich mal geschaut, welche Film im April schon starten und dann eben Ende April/Anfang Mai auch noch in den Kinos sind. Und was hab ich entdeckt? "Nim's Island". Ich hatte vorher noch nie was von dem Film gehört, aber den muss ich unbedingt sehen...

Nim's Island:

Anything can happen on Nim's Island, a magical place ruled by a young girl's imagination. It is an existence that mirrors that of her favorite literary character, Alex Rover- the world's greatest adventurer. But Alexandra, the author of the Rover books, leads a reclusive life in the big city. When Nim's father goes missing from their island, a twist of fate brings her together with Alexandra. Now, they must draw courage from their fictional hero, Alex Rover, and find strength in one another to conquer Nim's Island.

Abigail Breslin spielt das Mädel, Jodie Foster die Autorin Alexandra uuuuund ... Gerard Butler eine Doppelrolle als der vermisste Vater und Alex Rover, den Roman-Helden *freu* Ich glaube, der Film wird ziemlich genial...

Und bei Youtube gibt's auch den Trailer... Der Film wird bestimmt witzig, streckenweise sicher albern, aber Gerry macht das alles wett :-)

Klasse Titel, ein paar sehr geniale Kolumnen, viele wirkliche lustige Beobachtungen in passende Worte gepackt. Aber hin und wieder auch ein bisschen Langeweile. Aber alles in allem schon ganz gut. Textausschnitte aus Kolumnen sind irgendwie schwierig, daher verzichte ich dann doch mal drauf...

Kann mir jemand sagen, wie ich den Ohrwurm "F*cking Matt Damon" loswerde? HILFE! So witzig ich die beiden Clips finde, so nervig ist es das Lied permanent im Ohr zu haben! Für alle, die die Clips und die Vorgeschichte noch nicht kennen noch nicht kennen...

I knew I had a long day ahead of me. And I wasn't rooting for anyone in particular this year. So why, oh why did I spent the last three and a half hours lying in bed watching the Oscars? Probaby because of my huge crazy love for movies and everything movie-related.

Some questions that arose during this sleepless night ...

Why didn't anyone tell Jennifer Hudson, Tilda Swinton and Diablo Cody that their dresses are... well ... just terribly ugly?
When did Catherine Zeta-Jones got an Oscar? And for what movie?
Were the categories always titled with "Achievement in..."?
Did Harrison Ford do a movie in the last 5 (10?) years at all?
Who was the girl next to Viggo Mortensen?
Wasn't this ceremony shorter than usual?
When will I be able to watch the red-carpet stuff I taped?
Is Colin Farrell Irish or a Scot?
Will I ever fall out of love with the scottish accent? [I should really get some James McAvory movies]
Does ibuprofen also works for headaches caused by sleep-deprevation?
How will I make it through this 15 hours day on only two hours of sleep? [the 15 hours starting now and do not include the 3,5 hours I'm already awake]

And totally unrelated

Will I ever live in a flat / house with underfloor heating?

Off to the shower... and then to get the first dose of coffein for today.
